I practice and create a model for empathy by generating meaning by utilizing material in extended metaphor with its inherent characteristics. In this work, my materials; scrap radiator metal, crushed glass of homewares from goodwill, and salvaged wood, all come together in the form of an aerial landscape.  An expression of tragic beauty, scorched lands, disappearing waters, and the wake in  our identities that these events have created. To have empathy, we must understand the history, honor the pain, and express the gifts the path has given us. 

Beyond just physical materials; there is joy in seeing the beauty in something everyone else has overlooked, and highlighting its unique qualities, giving it new life and purpose. I encourage you to imagine the many ways we can use this aesthetic to enrich and expand our idea of what has value, and how we can imbue these things with purpose simply through intention.
